Facts about Guru Nanak Dev Ji – The first Guru of Sikhs

Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the first guru of the Sikhs. Guru Ji was born on 15 April 1469.Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in Rāi Bhoi Kī Talvaṇḍī, Today it is known as Nankana Sahib. His father name was Mehta Kalu and mother was Mata Tripta. He had a sister named Bebe Nanki.

Following are some facts about Guru Nanak Dev Ji

1. Early Life
In the childhood, Guru Nanak Dev Ji was very much attached with his sister Bebe Nanki who was 5 year older then him. She was married in the year 1475 and shifted to Sultanpur. So after some time Guru Nanak Ji also moved to Sultanpur at her residence. when guru ji was 16 year old he started working under Daulat Khan Lodhi.

2. Married Life
At the age of 18 years. Guru Nanak Dev Ji was married to Bibi Sulakhani. He had two sons Shri Chand and Lakhmi Chand. Bibi Sulakhani was the daughter of Chando Rani and Mūl chand of Batala.

3. Disappeared in the river Kali Bein
Once, some peoples found Guru Nanak’s clothes on the bank of river kali bein. All they assume that Guru Nanak had drowned in the river. Some people drowned in the river but they found nothing. Instead of all only Bebe Nanki was sure that nothing had done to Guru Nanak. Then after 3 days Guru Nanak Dev Ji reappeared from the river.

4. Teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji
Guru Nanak Dev Ji followed the path of Sikhism. He said that every man can have direct access to the god without any middleman or priest. Guru Ji rejected the caste systems of Guru Ji.

5. Journeys by Guru Ji
Guru Nanak Dev Ji have made four major journeys. He spent approx 30 years of his life in these journeys. Bhai Mardana was with Guru Ji on these journeys.
a) 1st tour(east) — Bengal , Assam and Manipur
b) 2nd tour(south)– Sri Lanka
c) 3rd tour(north)– Kashmir, Ladakh, Tibet and Arunachal Pradesh
d) 4th tour(west)–Baghdad, Mecca and Medina

Bhai Lehna was appointed as the successor Guru by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Guru Ji gave him the name as Guru Angad. After some time on 22 sep 1539, Guru Nanak Dev Ji died. He was at the age of 70 at that time.
